Green With Envy

PROJECT INFO: This 15-year-old, custom-built home had a very unique layout. Unfortunately, unique wasn’t functional at all for this family. With ample space to work with, we flexed our creative muscle. We started by dividing the kitchen into two islands: one for cooking and the other for multi-use as the bar, dining and homework area. The second island also includes wine storage, another garbage can and laptop cubbies. We even incorporated a built-in butcherblock cutting cutting board at the end of the cooking island, spaced perfectly within range of garbage cans. Next, we created a large pantry adjacent to the refrigerator to house the abundance of food to feed three growing boys. To help integrate the kitchen renovations to the rest of the first floor, we added a showstopping hood wall with floating shelves to balance the living room fireplace cabinetry at the other end of the great room, as well as an updated stair railing. The family finished everything off by upgrading to a Thermador appliance package boasting a column refrigerator/freezer and 48” wide range. Now, they fully utilize the entire kitchen with optimum efficiency.
